Jasprit Bumrah Player of the Series

Jasprit Bumrah bowled nearly 165 overs in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. Despite his heroics with the ball, India lost the series 3-1 and lost out an opportunity to play in the WTC final as well.

The Indian pacer was so much overworked that he picked up a back injury in the fifth and final Test match that prevented him from bowling on the third day of the final Test at Sydney with Australia needing 162 runs. It was a rather easy victory for Australia without Bumrah as the rest of the Indian bowlers looked ineffective.

However, former Indian World Cup winner Balwinder Sandhu has a completely different take on the matter. He said that workload is a foreign concept and that a bowler should not aspire to play for India if they cannot bowl 20 overs a day per match.

"Workload? How many overs did he (Bumrah) bowl? 150-something, right? But in how many matches or innings? Five matches or nine innings, correct? That comes down to 16 overs per innings or 30 overs per match. And he didn't bowl those 15-plus overs in one go. He bowled in spells. So, is it a big deal?" Sandhu toldĀ TimesofIndia.com.
"Workload management is bull****. These are Australian terms, created by Australians. I come from an era when cricketers used to listen to their bodies and no one else. I don't agree with this at all," Sandhu further added.

In another shocking statement by Sandu, he said that bowlers who cannot bowl long spells should think about giving up on Test cricket for their country. Incidentally, Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player Of The Series for his 32 wickets which remains the most taken by an Indian bowler in a Test series against Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah Might Miss England Series, Champions Trophy

Now after the conclusion of the series, the debate regarding Bumrah's workload is a heavily discussed topic within Indian cricketing circles. There are further reports that he might miss out potentially from the white-ball series against England and also the upcoming Champions Trophy. There are also talks about Bumrah suffering from a Grade 3 injury that might keep him out of the game for at least three months.
