Shreyas Iyer is trending due to his sudden and shocking departure from the India A squad for the ongoing Test series against Australia A. At first, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper cited personal reasons for his decision to withdraw from the game in the last hour. However, the latest report has revealed that the veteran had a conversation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee over his red-ball career for the coming months.
As per the Indian Express report, Iyer has communicated with the selection panel that he is facing some soreness in his back, which is preventing him from giving his 100% in the Test format, which demands a challenging amount of workload for 4-5 days. The right-hand batter had also told the board he can't field for more than four days, as his body does not allow it. Hence, Iyer has decided to take a break from the red-ball format.

The PBKS skipper also gave an example of a Ranji Trophy match he played last year, where he was seen taking frequent breaks in between the overs. However, the same can't be happening during India's A Test match assignments. A BCCI source revealed the chat they had with the Mumbai batter.
Shreyas Iyer's Test career is on hold for the time being
"He has informed us that he will be taking a break from red ball cricket, and it's good that he has cleared it out because selectors are now clear about his future. He won't be playing red ball cricket in the coming months, and he has informed the board that he will assess his body in the future in consultation with physios and trainer and take a call on it," the paper quoted a source as saying.
Iyer was in fray to be picked for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies, starting on October 02. However, his withdrawal has come just at a time when the BCCI was about to pick the squad for the home Test series.
