The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formed a three-member committee, led by Devajit Saikia. has established dedicated and strict guidelines in the aftermath of a tragic stampede at Bengaluru's iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which ended the lives of 11 people on June 04. Over 2.5 lakh people arrived at the Chinnaswamy Stadium hoping to celebrate the victory of their team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) first win in the 18th year of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season.

On Saturday, June 14, during the 28th Apex Council Meeting, the BCCI said it has formed a three-member panel committee to oversee the current situation of victory celebrations across India. BCCI secretary Saikia is in charge of the committee, which has been given a challenge to submit recommendations within a fortnight.

"The Apex Council expressed its profound grief over the tragic incidents in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, which led to the unfortunate loss of innocent lives," a statement from the board said. "In light of the incident that occurred during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Apex Council has decided to constitute a committee to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing such occurrences in the future.

BCCI's aim to provide people with proper scheduling and mandate for future victory celebration

RCB's maiden IPL victory, which came after 18 years of endless pain, heartbreak, and tragedy, was expected to culminate in a grand open bus parade at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium in front of their passionate and loyal fans. However, the event turned into tragedy as crowds rammed into each other to get into the stadium without proper tickets. Despite police officials resorting to lathi charges, the public was not ready to follow any sort of rules.

The absolute chaos among 2.5 lakh people outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 deaths, which turned the RCB open bus parade into a somber affair. The upcoming guidelines are expected to cover crowd control measures, stadium capacity restrictions, emergency protocols, and coordination with local authorities to avoid such tragic events, which forever linger a sour note in the public's memory.
