Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will battle it out with Delhi Capitals (DC) in match 17 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. CSK are coming off twin losses against against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). The loss against RCB would have hurt CSK more as it came at their fortress Cheapuk, and it was a massive 50-run loss as well. No doubt, CSK will be eager to bounce back stronger against DC, who are yet to lose a game in the two games, that they have played.
Under new captain Axar Patel, DC is looking solid in all departments of the game. Their core group of Axar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Tristan Stubbs have performed well so far, and their new acquisitions Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, and Faf du Plessis are among the runs and wickets.

CSK head coach Stephan Fleming was irked by how the Chepauk surface behaved during their game against RCB. For a long period of time, CSK's template has been to choke opposition with spinners. This year also, CSK has stacked squad spinners like Noor Ahmed, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin. However, in the game against RCB, the surface did not help spinners much. It remains to be seen after the outrage by Fleming, if Chepauk's surface spins from ball one.
CSK will also sweating on skipper Ruturaj Gaikaiwad's fitness. If the opener does not play, then MS Dhoni will yet again get to lead CSK. The batting of the yellow bridge has looked scratchy, with the likes of Rahul Tripathi, Rachin Ravindra, and Shivam Dube not firing consistently. Both have played here several times and know how to go about the business. Batting is looking in great shape for DC, as the ever-so-consistent Faf du Plessis is among the runs. His blazing starts upfront and eases the pressure on the middle order. Rahul and Ashutosh Sharma have also proven to be good finishers. Now, it is all about continuing with the same momentum, and intensity.
