IPL Trophy

The Board of Control of Cricket India has introduced a new rule ahead of the IPL 2025 naming them the RAPP( Registered Available Player Pool) this new is introduced to sign a player for a limited matches to replace the injured player.

What is RAPP?

The RAPP (Registered Available Player Pool) rule, introduced by the BCCI, allows IPL teams to sign replacements for unavailable players. As per the guidelines, teams can select replacements from the RAPP, and these players can be signed for the entire season. However, the fee for the replacement player cannot exceed the amount paid for the unavailable player during the auction. This ensures fairness while allowing teams to cover for injuries or other player unavailability during the tournament.

RAPP and How it works?

For example, if a team loses their wicketkeeper mid-season due to a minor injury, making him unavailable for 2-3 matches, and the team doesn't have a backup wicketkeeper in their squad, they can sign a substitute player from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) for those 2-3 matches, provided they receive approval from the BCCI.

New Changes Made in Player Replacement Rule

Until the IPL 2024 season, teams could replace an injured player only until the 7th match of the tournament. In other words, once they completed one cycle of the round-robin format and played their 7th match, they could no longer announce a replacement. However, under the new rules, teams now have until the 12th match to replace an injured player and can announce a new player to the team.
