Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma had a fantastic start to his Asia Cup 2025 campaign, smashing 30 runs off 18 balls to headline the chase of a 57-run target set by the United Arab Emirates in the first Group A match. He struck 3 sixes and 2 fours during his innings, impressing his father, Rajkumar Sharma, who backed India to win the tournament.
Speaking about his son’s match-winning performance, Rajkumar believes Abhishek will lead India to defend their Asia Cup 2025 title.
“India performed well in the first match of the Asia Cup. I want them to win the trophy. India is in good form, and I think they will win the Asia Cup,” Rajkumar told India Today in an interview.

He also expressed happiness over the BCCI backing Abhishek at the top and giving him chances to prove himself on the big stage. Like many, he’s excited about the upcoming India-Pakistan clash.
“India and Pakistan matches are some of the most anticipated in the world. I’m glad BCCI gave Abhishek chances. I want him to perform his best, help India win against Pakistan, and then lift the Asia Cup,” he added.

Abhishek Sharma has firmly established himself as an opening batter in the T20I squad alongside Shubman Gill. He has scored 565 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 193.49. His biggest weapon?
