India Drops to 3rd in ICC Test Rankings After 8 Years of Dominance at the Top

In a recent update of the ICC rankings, Team India experienced a significant setback, dropping to Rank 3 in the ICC Test Rankings after consistently holding the top position. This decline followed a disappointing performance in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India was defeated by Australia, 3-1, resulting in the loss of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy title after ten years. Additionally, India missed out on a spot in the WTC Finals at Lord's.

For over a decade, India has been dominant in the longer format of the game, showcasing their strength both at home and away. However, this dominance has come to a halt after New Zealand surprised them with a 0-3 whitewash at home, followed by a defeat in an away series. With India currently in a transition phase, this drop in rankings serves as a reality check for the team. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should consider making some changes ahead of the Test against England in June to help the team regain its footing and improve its ranking after a period of poor performance and move up the Rankings.

Jasprit Bumrah Achieve a Record Ratings

Jasprit Bumrah has set a new record for the highest-ever rating achieved by an Indian player, reaching 908 points and surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin's previous record of 904 points. Bumrah had an outstanding year in Test cricket, taking 71 wickets at an average of 14.92 over 26 innings. Despite the Indian team's struggles during the season, Bumrah excelled and played a crucial role in saving several matches. Due to his incredible performance, he was nominated for the ICC Player of the Year award and now holds the record for the highest rating points.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Suffer Major Slump in the Rankings

Legends of the game have experienced a significant drop in the rankings, as their recent form in Test cricket has seen them fall further down in the team standings. Virat Kohli is currently ranked 27th, while Rohit Sharma is 42nd.

Ravindra Jadeja has joined Jasprit Bumrah in the top 10 rankings, now holding the 9th position in the Test Bowler Rankings.

Scott Boland made the biggest leap, rising 29 places to break into the top 10. He had a fantastic performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 21 wickets at an impressive average of 13.19, which significantly boosted his ranking.
