Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was fined INR 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during a 54-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 45 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.Â
The BCCI slapped LSG with a fine for their second over-rate offense this season under Article 2.22 of IPL’s Code of Conduct. Pant bore the brunt with an INR 24 lakh penalty, while his teammates, including the impact player, were docked INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever was lower.Â
The fine added to Rishabh Pant’s challenges, with the LSG skipper managing just 110 runs in nine innings this season despite his INR 27 crore price tag.

"As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs," read a statement released by the IPL.
"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," it added.

Double Whammy for Rishabh Pant as LSG Lose to MI
Electing to bowl first, LSG struggled to contain MI’s explosive batting, led by rampant Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton, who scored fifties, as the hosts piled on 215 runs for the loss of seven wickets.Â
LSG’s chase went downhill pretty quickly with Pant falling for a mere four runs, contributing to their total of 161 all out. MI’s Jasprit Bumrah delivered a masterclass in bowling, securing the fifth consecutive victory for his side and bolstering their playoff prospects.

LSG’s mid-table position, with five wins and as many losses, leaves them under pressure as the IPL 2025 playoff race intensifies. Pant will need to rally his side quickly to keep their campaign alive, while MI’s dominant display at Wankhede has kept them firmly on track for the knockouts.
