IPL 2025 Match 12 MI vs KKR Highlights: Debutant Ashwani Kumar Stars in Mumbai's Dominance

Mumbai Indians (MI) bowled out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for just 116 runs in the 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Asked to bat first, KKR’s innings got off to a shaky start as Trent Boult dismissed Sunil Narine for a duck in the opening over, followed by Deepak Chahar removing Quinton de Kock cheaply. By the end of the powerplay, KKR were struggling at 41/4, with debutant Ashwani Kumar adding to their woes by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane for 11.

Despite the early setbacks, KKR found some stability through Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh. The pair weathered MI’s pace attack, but the introduction of spin slowed their progress. By the 10th over, KKR had crawled to 69/5 with Ashwani striking to remove Rinku for 17 in the 11th, leaving the visitors in a precarious position on a pitch offering bounce and movement.

KKR’s hopes rested on Manish Pandey and Andre Russell. Pandey, coming in as an Impact Player, struck some boundaries, but also perished after scoring 19 runs in the 11th over as Ashwani claimed his third scalp.

Russell was adjudged LBW but survived as the on-field decision was overturned after the ball was found to be missing the stumps on ball-tracking. He did not last for long as Ashwani again contributed in the form of his dismissal, rattling the stumps.

Vignesh Puthur got the better of Harshit Rana. Ramandeep Singh cut loose and found rewards. He played a brief cameo, hammering 22 runs off 12 deliveries.

As Ramandeep was trying to score as quickly as possible, this ultimately led to his undoing. Mitchell Santner dismissed him, also bundling KKR at a meager total of 116 runs.

For MI, Ashwani starred with the ball. He took four wickets and conceded 24 runs in his three overs. This is the best spell by an Indian bowler on IPL debut.
