Mumbai Indians (MI) secured an easy four-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17.
MI’s pursuit of 163 runs began with openers Rohit Sharma (26 runs off 16 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (31 runs off 23 balls) tasked with providing a solid foundation on a pitch that was assisting the bowlers.
Rohit looked in sublime touch, unleashing his trademark pull shots, including a maximum off Mohammad Shami that marked his 100th IPL six at Wankhede. However, his innings was cut short when he creamed a full-toss from Pat Cummins straight to Travis Head at cover, a dismissal that left MI 32/1.

Rickelton, the other opener, played a crucial supporting role but was involved in a dramatic no-ball incident. In the seventh over, bowled by leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari, Rickelton appeared to be caught by Cummins at cover off a short, wide delivery.Â
However, the fourth umpire intervened, spotting that SRH’s wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves were positioned ahead of the stumps when Rickelton made contact with the ball. The delivery was deemed a no-ball, nullifying the dismissal and granting the southpaw a lifeline, much to SRH’s frustration.
Rickelton capitalised briefly, but his luck ran out soon after when Harshal Patel induced a slice to backward point, ending his knock at 69/2 in 7.5 overs
Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs off 15 balls) joined Will Jacks (36 runs off 26 balls) at the crease, steering the chase with composure.

Suryakumar, known for his 360-degree strokeplay, adapted to the tricky surface, mixing deft touches with calculated aggression. His ability to find gaps, including a swept six over fine leg off Ansari in the ninth over, kept the required run-rate in check.Â
Jacks, who had not been able to make a mark with the bat in this season up until this match, finally showed how destructive he can be. He tonked Rahul Chahar and Ansari for a six each as MI progressed to complete the run-chase early.
Cummins dismissed Suryakumar in the 13th over but enough damage had been done by then.Â
Tilak Varma (21* runs off 17 balls) came out to bat at No. 5 for MI. Cummins continued to chip in with wickets as Jacks departed after scoring 36 runs.
Hardik Pandya (21 runs off 9 balls) played an intentful knock in the bid to improve MI's Net Run Rate. He smashed two boundaries off Cummins in the 15th over. The MI captain then took the attack to Harshal and smacked him for a six and a four in the 17th.
With just one run to win, Hardik tried to replicate it in the 18th over but could not power a full-toss into the stands and got holed out off Eshan Malinga's bowling. Naman Dhir (0 runs off 3 balls) was also adjudged LBW in the same over.
Ultimately, Tilak hit a boundary in the first ball of the 19th over as Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets.
After this victory, Mumbai Indians are at the seventh place on the IPL 2025 points table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are still reeling at the ninth position.
