Skipper Rajat Patidar continues his golden run, this time guiding Central Zone to a historic Duleep Trophy win their first in 11 years. Named as a stand-by captain to Dhruv Jurel for India 'A', Patidar didn’t just fill in he led from the front, both with his on-field decisions and leadership.

From IPL Glory to Duleep Triumph: Patidar’s Golden Run

After scripting history by leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden IPL title earlier this year, Patidar now adds another feather to his cap with the Duleep Trophy triumph. He was visibly thrilled with the win.

“Every captain likes winning trophies. But our players showed a lot of character across the tournament, and I am very happy about it.
Here, the wicket was slightly dry, so we decided to bat first. I am pleased for Danish and Yash — they batted well throughout the tournament,” Patidar said at the post-match presentation.

Azharuddin Reflects on Loss, Stays Focused on Upcoming Season

Meanwhile, South Zone skipper Mohammed Azharuddin admitted he was disappointed with the result but remained positive ahead of the domestic season.

“We will get better from this experience a long season lies ahead. Central spinners were hitting the right areas, and we made a few poor decisions as a batting unit.
But we fought well in the second innings, and I’m happy that we didn’t give up easily,” he said.

Low-Scoring Thriller Ends in Central’s Favour

Chasing just 65 for victory, Central Zone’s top order got off to a nervous start, possibly underestimating the small target. South Zone bowlers Gurjapneet Singh and Ankit Kumar made full use of the wearing fifth-day surface, slicing through the top order to leave Central at 24/3.

Despite the low total, South made a real contest of it, pushing the game into the 20th over. But in the end, it wasn’t enough.

Akshay Wadkar (19* off 52) and first-innings centurion Yash Rathod (13* off 16) kept their cool and saw Central home. They sealed the chase at 66/4 in 20.3 overs — securing Central’s seventh Duleep Trophy title.
