RCB vs PBKS: Match Previews
New Look Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings has become a team to watch this mid-season due to their consistent performance under captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting. They are achieving results that previous Punjab teams struggled to deliver.
In the top order, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have been excellent; if one fails, the other steps up. With Shreyas Iyer following next in the batting order, their main concern lies in the middle order. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell have not been performing up to expectations when the top order falters.
Although Jos Inglis has had a rough start to the tournament, Ricky Ponting will likely continue to back him, allowing him more opportunities to prove himself. Nehal Wadhera, who has been utilized as a floater this season, has shown inconsistency, especially on surfaces that support bowlers, making it difficult for him to build an innings. However, Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen have proven to be effective finishers for the Kings.
On the bowling front, Arshdeep Singh has been the standout player, supported by Marco Jansen. One issue has been Yuzi Chahal’s form, but his performance against KKR was certainly his best in the last two years, indicating that a confident Chahal is back to his best for PBKS this season. Additionally, Yash Thakur and Vijaykumar Vysakh have made an impact when used as substitutes, consistently contributing wickets. Overall, this group of players has been well managed by Shreyas Iyer, who has excelled as captain.
- Most Runs: Shreyas Iyer - 250 RunsÂ
- Most Wickets: Arshdeep Singh - 8 WicketsÂ
RCB’s Home Ground Woes
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been impressive this season, led by captain Rajat Patidar. They have won all their away games; however, their only victories out of six matches have come on the road, with two losses occurring at home. Despite various changes over time, RCB continues to struggle for consistent results at their home ground.
As a team, they look strong, with Virat Kohli and Phil Salt complementing each other well at the top. Devdutt Padikkal stabilizes the innings at number three, followed by captain Rajat Patidar, who is in good form. Liam Livingstone and Tim David provide much-needed depth to the batting lineup.

In the bowling department, Josh Hazlewood leads the attack, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is steadily returning to form, which is a positive sign for RCB. Yash Dayal has been reliable whenever they need wickets, and Patidar has utilized him effectively this season. Krunal Pandya has been a pleasant surprise in the bowling unit, regularly taking wickets and proving to be a lethal option among spinners; when Krunal performs well, it’s a bonus for the team.
The match-ups have been fairly even in terms of team composition, but RCB must address their issues at home. For Punjab Kings, continuing their dominance at this stadium will be a priority.
- Most Runs: Virat Kohli - 248 RunsÂ
- Most Wickets: Josh Hazelwood - 6 Wickets
