The governing council of the Women's Premier League (WPL) has allowed the five franchises to retain up to five players from their existing squads, either through the way of direct retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option. Notably, BCCI also confirmed the five teams will have a huge purse of INR 15 Crore to rebuild the squad for the coming fourth WPL season.

Franchises have been given a November 5 deadline to finalize their retention, with the WPL mega auction set to be held on November 26 and November 29, as reported by Cricbuzz. According to BCCI rules and regulations, a team can retain a maximum up to three Indian capped players, two overseas players or two uncapped Indian players. If a team decides to use their full retention of five players, at least there must be one an uncapped player.

BCCI with governing council of WPL have finalized the retained players will be valued under the following price slabs:

Retention 1 - INR 3.50 crore

Retention 2 - INR 2.50 crore

Retention 3 - INR 1.75 crore

Retention 4 - INR 1 crore

Retention 5 - INR 50 lakh

Notably, if any franchises wish to retain up to five players INR 9.25 Crore will be deducted from their purse and they will hence lose the option of RTM cards. Teams that retain four players will lose INR 8.75 Crore and will get only one RTM, while those teams who retain three players will be eligible to use two RTMs available.

Uncapped player retention will cost INR 50 Lakh

Notably, each uncapped player will be retained at the cost of INR 50 Lakh. Five franchises are also eligible to pay retained players more than the prescribed slabs, with the corresponding excess amount deducted from each of the five teams purse. The last date of the player registration is November 18, and the final list of players for the auction will officially shared by the BCCI on November 20.
