Webster scored a fifty in the second session

Australia came back strongly in the second session of the WTC 2025 final at Lord's on Tuesday, June 11. At tea, they have posted 190 runs for the loss of five wickets.

More importantly, in the second session, the Aussie batters scored 1234 runs for the loss of just one wicket. At the heart of Australia's turnaround was Steve Smith (66 runs off 112 balls) and all-rounder Beau Webster (55* off 76 balls).

The duo added a a 79-run stand to restore the innings for Australia who were under the pump after the first session. Both played their shots and took the attack to Australia.

Webster-Smith Push Australia Forward

Webster got a life as the South African skipper Temba Bavuma did not take the DRS review on an appeal which ideally he should have taken. Barring that life, Webster played a really commanding innings and stitched two key partnerships first with Steve Smith and then with Alex Carey (22* runs off 29 balls). Carey and Webster added 48 runs since the departure of Smith in the 42nd over of the Australian innings.

Smith was dismissed by Aiden Markram who managed to induce a false shot from the Australian great. He edged the ball and Marco Jansen at slips took a juggling catch. Smith's wicket was a big breakthrough for Australia. However, the Webster-Carey stand has once again brought Australia to a position of strength.

With over 100 runs being scored and South African bowlers bowling a few no-balls and wides and missing a few key chances, Australia have certainly made a comeback into the contest. With skipper Pat Cummins to follow, who can hit the long ball, Australia would ideally like to score another 100 runs in the final session of play.

Australia Target 300 In Final Session

The first target for them will be to cross the 200-mark and score as many runs as possible in the remaining overs of the day. As many as 40 overs are still to be bowled in the final session of play. It will be interesting to see whether the Proteas can bowl out the Aussies.
