Mohammad Amir retirement

Former Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Amir has opened up about his latest retirement from international cricket. The speedster had previously called it quits in December 2020 but made a comeback to feature in the T20 World Cup 2024 for Pakistan, which was held in the USA and the West Indies.

The left-hand pacer could not make much of an impact as Pakistan crashed out of the group stage in the showpiece event. Currently, Amir is playing in the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) season. The 33-year-old is representing the Quetta Gladiators (QTG). Amir expressed his displeasure over the lack of communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the T20 World Cup, which made the pacer understand that he was not in the scheme of things to play for the Pakistan team further.

"After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me, no one told me about any plans. A wise man needs no further explanation. If I’m not in the plan, then I have to think about myself. Now I’ve made up my mind — thank you very much to international cricket," Amir said on Geo News.

Mohammad Amir opens up about leaving County contract to play for Pakistan again

Mohammad Amir further stated that he had left his county contract and he traveled to the World Cup at his own expense. The left-arm pacer also personally paid for the costs for himself and his trainer.

"When I came to play in the World Cup, I left my county contract. Whatever I played in the World Cup, I ended up spending more money myself. My trainer traveled with me, and I bore all those expenses personally. Anyway, that’s a separate matter," he said.
