Rohit Sharma test

Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper had had a lean run in Test cricket off late. In the Test series against Australia, he scored just 31 runs at an average of 6.20. He even dropped himself from the fifth and final Test in Sydney but India lost the game.

Rohit's troubles with the red ball started with the home series against New Zealand. India were whitewashed in the series by the Kiwis. Rohit the skipper scored just 91 in the series at an average of 15.17.

Virat and Rohit's modes of dismissals were spoken off and criticised heavily. While Virat was repeatedly dismissed trying to play the ball at the fifth and sixth stump line, Pat Cummins made Rohit his bunny by bowling him an immaculate length on off stump.

Now former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has taken a hit at him saying that going forward Rohit Sharma needs to take a call on his future in Test cricket. Alongside Rohit, even Virat Kohli had a poor series by his standards. He scored just 190 runs in five matches and nine innings at an average of 23.75 with a century.

Hunger Must Reflect In His Actions: Sanjay Bangar On Rohit Sharma

Sanjay Bangar while speaking to Star Sports has said that Rohit's recent run of form will hurt him as a cricket. He also spoke about Rohit's future in the format.

"When you are 37 years old, every failure hurts because a cricketer is a very proud person. When he sees the kind of performances he has had in the past but cannot replicate them, and when young players are performing well, these factors weigh heavily on his mind. This might have influenced his decision. He needs to determine whether he still has the hunger to play Test cricket. If he does, that hunger must reflect in his actions."

Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta who was also a part of the discussion also questioned the hunger to play Test cricket and the need to play domestic cricket as well. The ongoing 2024-25 season has been tough for both the senior Indian players. While Rohit has scored 164 runs in eight matches and 15 innings at an average of 10.93, Kohli has scored 382 runs in 10 matches and 19 innings at an average of 22.87 with just one century.
